4 Luxury Hotels in New York Guaranteed to Make Your Trip Unforgettable

If the Plaza Hotel looks familiar to you, it’s because it was featured in the hit 90s sequel to Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The hotel is stunning to behold. It is an independent hotel which is managed and run by large conglomerates and corporations. It is located on Grand Army Plaza, which is about as close to Central Park as you can get, without actually pitching a tent in there and camping. Not only that, but all of the famous tourist attractions are located close by, many of which can be reached on foot. Many Europeans tend to favour this boutique hotel, and it has seen more than its fair share of celebrities over the years. This hotel just oozes style and sophistication, and I was lucky enough to get to stay here a few years back. One bathroom probably cost more to build than my house, as they are made from pure marble. Everywhere you look you see something new and equally as dazzling. From the grand antique French desk in the lobby, to the wreaths of flowers as you make your way up and down the elevator, this hotel really was something special. There are apparently 282 rooms in total here, and while they all vary in price depending on which type of room you go for, they are all equally as beautiful in their own right.

If the Plaza Hotel is the most well-known New York hotel on our list, surely the four seasons comes in at a close second. I haven’t yet stayed here, but I’ve done my research and know a few travel buddies that have, and let’s just say that they were hugely impressed. With high vaulted ceilings, grand marble pillars and floors, and over 380 rooms, this hotel is eye-catching in every sense of the word. Each room provides stunning views, but the higher you go, the better the views become. With panoramic views of the city, along with views of the iconic Hudson River and the unmistakable Central Park, if you want a room with a view, it is recommended that you aim high – literally. Foodies like me will be in their element here, as the hotel hosts two amazing restaurants. One is the Ty Lounge which serves dishes with a distinctly Korean influence. The other is the Garden Restaurant, which gets its name from the fact that it is located underneath amazing acacia trees which fan flawlessly across the lobby. Here, diners can enjoy classic American favourites. Another benefit of the Four Seasons is that it is located just outside of Times Square, so it’s not overly busy or hectic.

This next hotel I have actually stayed at, albeit for one night, but what an amazing night it was. The Mandarin Oriental hotel is located directly on top of the Time Warner Centre, just south of Central Park. Because of this, it too is located in close-proximity to all of New York’s favourite attractions. If you love views, the Mandarin Oriental is perfect, as it provides picturesque views across the Hudson. The hotel offers 46 suites and 202 rooms. As you have guessed by the name, the Mandarin Oriental’s décor has a distinctly oriental theme, providing classical oriental grandeur with hints of retro and contemporary styles. As soon as I checked in, I felt instantly at home here. It was so relaxed, you’d swear you’d lived here all of your life. the lounge areas are distinctly Art Deco, with Oriental twists, you’ll be blown away by the vibrant golds and purples coating the walls. The restaurant provides amazing food, though it is the ceiling that you’ll remember, as it has been decorated in the style of winding tree branches.

The Mark Hotel may not sound overly classy and luxurious, but don’t let that fool you. The Mark is situated in a spot that every other hotel in New York is surely in envy of. Situated on Madison and 77^th, the street is littered by lush trees and foliage on either side, that in Fall, looks like something out of a fantasy epic. The hotel is furnished in a contemporary style, with modern geometric patterns and lines, and vibrant and bold colours. The interior designers of The Mark Hotel certainly weren’t going for neutral colours here, and I’m glad about that. The hotel bar for example, is illuminated by a bright pink neon backlight, whereas the rooms are laden with modern technology, gadgets, gizmos, and all mod cons. In each room for example, guests will be provided with a control panel that controls pretty-much everything in the room. It regulates the lights, the temperature, the only thing it doesn’t yet do is give your feet a rub after a day of sightseeing.
